The Judges – Judges 10–12

Sunday, February 14: The Judges

Judges 10–12

If you could make a deal with God to secure His blessing, what would you offer Him?

Money?

Time?

Prayer?

Giving up bad habits?

What is God’s blessing worth to you?

What if I told you that you don’t have to make any vows? Jesus has already secured for us the blessing of God!

This week, we will be looking at Judges 10–12 and the story of Jephthah. Jephthah’s story is not well known—if you are familiar with him at all it is probably because of his vow and its tragic consequences. We will talk about the vow, but Jephthah’s story is bigger than his vow.

At issue with Jephthah’s vow is God’s grace and His unwavering commitment to Israel (and us!). Do we need to make vows to get God’s attention? Is that how God works?

We will be talking about grace on Sunday. It’s an elementary topic of theology, but one we need to return to again and again. You never outgrow your need to be reminded that God is for you and the work has been done by Christ already!

See you on Sunday!
