Champs & Misfits – Hebrews 10:19–25

Sunday, October 15: Champs & Misfits

Hebrews 10:19–25

In 2 Samuel 6, David is transporting the ark of the covenant from Kiriath-jearim to Jerusalem on an oxen-drawn cart. When one of the oxen stumbles along the way, a guy named Uzzah reaches his hand out to touch the ark, and God strikes him down for his presumption.Yikes!

Imagine what it must have been like for the high priests after that to enter the holy of holies on the Day of Atonement. Talk about high stakes! The liturgy must have been reverent, holy, and probably a little terrifying for the priests.

With that in mind, consider the shock of Hebrews 10:19, “[W]e have confidence to enter the holy places by the blood of Jesus.” Confidence? How can sinful people have confidence to enter into the presence of God?

This week we will be continuing our Champs and Misfits series by looking at Hebrews 10:19-25. We’re going to see that because we have a great high priest, we can worship with confidence. We don’t have to be defeated by failure. We don’t have to be discouraged. We can keep going!

Join us this week as we talk about Jesus, our great Advocate! See you on Sunday!
