Bound by the Spirit – Acts 24:1–27

Sunday, November 17: Bound by the Spirit

Acts 24:1–27

Procrastination. There must be ten thousand websites on it, covering scholarly essays, articles in psychological journals and university studies. There are tests you can take to quantify how bad off you are. Apparently, twenty percent of us can be identified as chronic procrastinators.

You can even find websites devoted to jokes about it. Will Rogers said, “Even if you’re on the right track, you’ll get run over if you just sit there.” Douglas Adam admits, “I love deadlines… I like the whooshing sound they make as they fly by.”

Procrastination can be kind of funny, I suppose, if nobody gets hurt. But there’s one area of life where it’s no laughing matter: That would be in the realm of spiritual issues. In most other areas you can get away with putting things off and the pain of saying, “I’ll get to that tomorrow” is minimal. In the spiritual realm, however, the danger of delay can be fatal. We’re going to see a sad example of that this week in Acts 24. See you on Sunday.
