Son of God – Mark 4:35–41

Sunday, February 9: Son of God

Mark 4:35–41

In Mark 4, Jesus embarks on a journey with his disciples across the Sea of Galilee. In a small fishing boat. In a storm. At night.

The trip goes about as well as you fear. The wind roars. The waves crash. The boat starts to take on water.

Did I mention it was nighttime?

It’s not surprising that this story is so memorable. The danger of the sea, the noise of the wind, and the uncertainty of the darkness remind us of the difficult things we go through in life—unemployment, sickness, and family struggles. In fact, somewhere along the line we even started calling these hard times “storms.”

If you’re familiar with the story, you know how it ends—Jesus calms the storm. Ironically, his actions leave his disciples even more afraid. Mark tells us they “feared a great fear” and asked themselves, “Who is this, that even the wind and sea obey him?”

Great question.

Join us this week as we take a fresh look at a well-known story and ask ourselves what it means that the Son of God is with us in the storms.

See you Sunday!
