Galatians 4:8–20

Two steps forward, one step back is a nice way of saying, “You’ll get there eventually.” One step forward, two steps back is sort of a warning that you need to change something if you want to improve, and as you might expect we don’t really have a saying for “Two steps backward, sit down and change nothing.”

In his letter to the church in Galatia, Paul is setting out to invent that saying, because it’s what the people there are up to. They’re a church who have experienced the freedom and grace of Jesus, they’re even the folks who helped Paul learn about Jesus! But somewhere along the way, this church has taken two steps back and sat down for a bit.

While Paul’s love for them is clear in this passage, there’s also more than a little bit of frustration creeping through.

A solid reminder for us this week is that we don’t need to return to a works-based understanding of salvation. There is only one way that we have right standing before God, and it is through the person and work Jesus accomplished on our behalf.

Join us this Sunday as we are reminded of the source of our righteousness, and as we are reminded that it has never been, and never could be our own contributions.

See you Sunday!
You can participate online at 8:00 AM, 9:30, or 11:00. You can also join us in person at 9:30 or 11:00. No need to register.
