Plowshares and Pruning Hooks – Micah

Sunday, July 10: Plowshares & Pruning Hooks

Micah

People love reality television. There is something about watching other people have problems that make our problems seem a little easier to handle. Or watching people we know as famous do silly things seems to take the tension away from the work deadlines. Think about this: ten years ago if I were to pitch you an idea for a television show that included washed-up, B-list celebrities competing in ballroom dancing, you would have laughed! But thanks to America’s fervor for reality, we buy into it. The staple of reality TV is rooted in the courtroom. For whatever reason, we as a nation, devote enough energy to support dozens of court shows. From the original “People’s Court” and “Divorce Court” to the startups of Judge Judy and Judge Joe Brown, we love entering the courtroom! And we are not alone! The courtroom has been a popular device to get people to pay attention since, well, since the Bible.

And we find ourselves entering into the courtroom of Israel this week in “Plowshares and Pruning Hooks”, our study in the Minor Prophets. Come out this Sunday to see the Good Judge presiding over His people in the book of Micah. Will the Northern Kingdom be guilty of the injustices they have done? Will the Southern Kingdom be acquitted? Will the Good Judge send an ambassador to defend the people? I guess you’ll have to come and find out! Bring your Bible and suspenseful attitude this Sunday!
