Vision – Mission

My sons love power tools (honestly, who doesn’t?). When I am working in the garage, one of them will inevitably poke their head out and ask, “What are you working on? Can I help?”

If the answers are “working with a power tool” and “yes,” then their faces immediately light up with joy.

Part of this is that it’s awesome to work with a nail gun or compound miter saw. But also, my kids just like to connect with their dad by joining him in his work. When we join with someone in doing the things they love, we connect with them in a way we otherwise can’t.

The same is true of us and God. One of the best ways to connect with God is to join in him doing the things He loves.

And God loves reconciling people to himself.

In 2 Corinthians 5:17–18 (ESV), Paul says “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come. All this is from God, who through Christ reconciled us to himself and gave us the ministry of reconciliation.”

The mission of God is reconciling the world through the gospel of Jesus. It’s God’s work and He has called us to join Him in it.

This Sunday will be the fourth and final week in our vision series. After an initial overview, we talked about worship (“We worship God in Spirit and in Truth”) and discipleship (“We grow in authentic relationship with God and each other”). This week, we will talk about mission (“We share the life-changing truth of Jesus with grace”).

God is working in our world, reconciling it to himself. In his wisdom, He has decided to use us in that work. That means we have a job to do. We have been entrusted with the saving message of Jesus. We have also been commissioned, not to be comfortable in our space with our people, but to go out into the world and join Jesus in his reconciling work.

It’s a blessing and privilege to be invited to join God in his work, and I can’t wait to talk about it!

See you on Sunday!

Service times are at 9:00 & 11:00. If you can’t make it in person, you can watch live at those times.
