Signs – John 8:48–59

Sunday, February 12: Signs

John 8:48–59

I was in my twenties when I attended my first real debate. A professor of mine was invited by the University of Indiana to debate on the existence of God. My impressionable young Moody mind was intrigued by my current philosophy professor taking on the anthropology professor of a major college! So we made the drive across state lines to support our guy!

This was when it first sunk in. The people debating rarely change each others minds. Can you imagine the presidential debate that has someone pause, and then switch sides? “You know, you’ve made a compelling point, and regardless of how I will be treated by my peers, I would like to join your party.” Not gonna happen!

So if people don’t debate for themselves, who are they debating for? The audience. Jesus and the religious leaders are trying to win over the crowd. And we get to join the audience this Sunday as we finish off chapter 8, which really is a great debate.

See you this Sunday as we decide for ourselves what we think about Jesus’ identity. Do we agree with the faithful Jewish leaders? Or do we side with the upstart out of Galilee?

Service times are at 9:30 & 11:00. If you can’t make it in person, you can watch live at those times.
