Moses – Exodus 17:1–7

Sunday, April 7: Moses

Exodus 17:1–7

At the start of Exodus 17 the Israelites have come a long way. God had prepared and sent them a deliverer in the person of Moses to help them escape from Egypt. Then when their backs were against the wall, with the Egyptian army behind them and the Red Sea in front of them, the Lord literally parted the waters so that they could walk safely through to the other side.By God’s grace, they had been miraculously saved and delivered from slavery. The Egyptian Army was deep-sea fishing and they were finally and fully free from the tyranny of Pharaoh. Best of all, they were on their way to a land flowing with milk and honey.

Now you would think that folks who had come this far, who had experienced that kind of miraculous deliverance, would be deliriously grateful forever. That’s what you would think. But you would be wrong. And what you need to know when reading Exodus is that we’re the Israelites. In almost every way we tend to be just like them. See you on Sunday!
