James: A Living Faith (James 1: 9-18)

Trials, Temptation… and Endurance

It has been a heavy and difficult week—a time that challenges us deeply, yet also offers us an opportunity to remain steadfast in our faith and to put into practice what we are learning through the book of James. Now more than ever, we seek wisdom from the Lord, trusting Him to guide us through.

At Believers Fellowship, our desire remains the same: to fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith. We want to run the race marked out for us with perseverance, without losing heart.

With that in mind, I want to acknowledge something important. I regret not speaking more directly to the tragedy we are all grieving. While we do not use the pulpit to discuss politics, the public and violent murder of Charlie Kirk goes far beyond that realm. I realize that I missed an opportunity to be a voice of encouragement and comfort to those mourning the loss of a brother in Christ. Please know that I am grieving as well.

In the days since, I’ve had meaningful conversations and prayer gatherings with staff and members of our church family. But I also recognize that I did not shepherd well in that moment last Sunday. For that, I am truly sorry.

I desire to walk confidently in the truth of God’s Word and to be a light in a world that often feels dark and disoriented. This is why, as a community, we will continue to stand firm in the gospel and remain unwavering in our hope.

This Sunday, we will continue to seek wisdom from above. We will continue to persevere through trials and temptation, trusting in the promise that there is blessing for those who endure. Sin crouches at the door, but God offers us a way forward—a way of grace and strength.

Please know that I, along with the rest of our staff, am praying for you. We are here for you—to talk, to listen, and to pray together.
