Galatians 2:1–10

As a general statement, nobody really likes to be told what to do. This goes double if it’s something that we really feel like doing, but know we’re not supposed to. And possibly even triple, if we’re being told not to do the thing that we thought we were supposed to be doing in the first place. Phew.

People are complicated.

In Galatians chapter 2 Paul is writing to a church that he has to tell not to do the thing that they thought they were supposed to do, which as was previously mentioned, often goes triply unappreciated.

Paul has to pull back on the reigns of some over-zealous folks who probably were convinced they were the last true believers, the last ones to really follow God.

What we find is that sometimes in our zeal to defend our beliefs, we’re shown that some of them actually aren’t necessary.

But some are necessary after all.

It’s complicated.
