Psalm 142 & Psalm 18
Have you ever had to wait? Have you ever been sure of the direction your life should be heading, but had to wait to get there? We are conditioned to wait for both everyday small things that occur in our lives, and significant life events.
David had to wait. God tells the prophet Samuel to go to Bethlehem and anoint a shepherd boy named David to be Israel’s next king. However, there is a big problem: Israel already has a king, and his name is Saul. Moreover, Saul was a king not looking to abdicate his throne.
Not only did David have to wait to sit on the throne, but he also had to avoid Saul, who would hunt David down for years. We do not have to wonder how David felt about his situation because he wrote about his feelings, fears, hopes, and prayers. They are preserved for us in the Psalms.
This Sunday as we look at two Psalms. One Psalm recounts David hiding in a cave, praying to God for supernatural help to evade capture by Saul’s army. The other Psalm is a reflection of what God did for David as he ran from Saul.
