Songs And Sayings (06/29/25) Introduction to Proverbs

Introduction: Proverbs

This week we begin a summer study series on the called “Songs and Sayings.” As you might guess, the “Songs” refer to the Psalms and the “Sayings” refer to Proverbs.

To launch the series, this Sunday’s message will be an introduction to Proverbs. One of the things I love best about this ancient collection of sayings is that even though they were written thousands of years ago, they tell us about the way life works in every age.

The world may change. Times may change. Technology, science and medicine might change, but life works much the same way it always has, because the basic nature and needs of humanity do not change.

No matter when or where we live, life has to do with relationships, family and friends; marriage and raising children; how we treat people, how we speak and act. It has to do with our priorities, values and the use of our time and resources.

The Proverbs teach that those who are godly, moral, hardworking, ethical, virtuous, intentional, generous and wise will have an advantage in this life. God’s ways, ancient as they may be, still work in whatever century we happen to live. They worked for those who lived a thousand years before Jesus was born, and they work for those live two thousand years after.
