Reflect and Rejoice

1 Samuel 7:12, Joshua 4:1-8
Before we go full tilt into the Christmas season and the new year—we want to take some time to reflect and rejoice. Reflect on what God has done this past year and rejoice at what He is doing, and going to do!
The Bible is full of this practice of remembering what God has done and trusting that He is still moving in our lives.
Humans are prone to forget and are easily distracted. This is why Samuel raised up a monument rock and called it “Ebenezer”, meaning thus far God has helped. The people of God needed a reminder that God has helped them. In the same way, Joshua also used rocks as a memorial. When the Israelites needed to pass into the promised land they found that the Jordan river was flooded! God had the priests carry the Ark into the river, and as soon as the first sandal entered the river, God stopped its flow. Joshua called a man from every tribe to grab a rock and heft it out of the river bed. Joshua then used these rocks to build a physical reminder of what God had done.
So what has God done this year? What do we need to remember?
