Hebrews 11 Hall Of Faith - Enoch and Abel

What kind of legacy will your faith leave? 

 Some of the people named in Hebrews 11 are the all-stars of the Old Testament. Many are familiar to us because their stories fill entire chapters: four chapters are devoted to Noah, thirteen to Abraham, fifteen to Isaac, twenty-four to Jacob, and Moses and David receive more attention than all the others combined.   

But the author of Hebrews does not begin the Hall of Faith with any of these well-known figures. Instead, he reaches even further back and highlights two men about whom we know very little. The Old Testament gives Abel three verses and Enoch four verses. In fact, if we remember anything about Abel and Enoch, it is how they left this world: one was murdered, and the other was simply “taken up.”  

In Hebrews 11:4–6, Abel and Enoch are remembered not for worldly success or lengthy biographies, but for lives marked by faith. Abel worshiped God by faith, and Enoch walked with God by faith.

Though they appear only briefly in the Old Testament, Hebrews places them at the beginning of the great “Hall of Faith,” reminding us that the life that pleases God is a life of trust, worship, and obedience.
