Habakkuk 2: 5-20

Woes To The Proud & Wicked
Hollywood has nearly perfected the art of the suspense movie. When we meet the ‘bad guy’ who has done terrible things…somewhere in our hearts we long for justice. And, movies get to the resolution in 120 minutes or less! We leave happy, knowing that good might stand a chance against injustice in the world.
While the movies we watch have a definite end time, life isn’t always like that. Justice will come, but we have to trust God’s timing.
Last week, we saw Habakkuk take his stand on the watchtower and wait to hear from God. God answered (and He still answers today!) with a promise that, though justice may seem slow in coming, it will surely come. God is going to exercise justice over the evil nation that will ransack and plunder Israel. He does it with a song of “woes.” These judgements are directed specifically at the Babylonians, but through them we get a glimpse into how God views their actions and attitudes. We see a contrast between the proud and the faithful. The big question is; how are we to live in a culture that doesn’t honor God or seek righteousness?
