Christ At The Crossroads - Grace

Many years ago, a dictionary maker compiled a list of what he believed were the ten most beautiful words in the English language. Here is what he came up with: chimes, dawn, golden, hush, lullaby, luminous, melody, mist, murmuring, and tranquil.
Those are beautiful words. There’s a lyrical quality to their syllables and a gentleness in the images that settle in our minds. Yet, as beautiful as they are, I would suggest another word that belongs on the list—perhaps even in first place. That word is grace.
It might surprise you to learn that the word we use to describe the undeserved favor of God was never used by Jesus, as far as we know. Nevertheless, the best definition of grace doesn’t come from a dictionary, but from the pages of His life.
The Sunday after next, we will celebrate Easter. However, before we get to the resurrection, we must first go through the cross. This week, we meet Jesus at the intersection of one man’s life, who was crucified alongside Him, a man commonly referred to as the thief on the cross. I can think of no better way to describe the intersection of life and faith seen here than this: Christ at the Crossroad of Grace.
