Christ At The Crossroads - Discipleship

If you spent time in the 1900s at all, you remember CDs. And if you remember CDs, you remember CD clubs!

Yes, this was a time when marketing was deceiving! You would get an advertisement in the mail from Columbia House saying something like, “12 CDs for the price of a penny.” So, you subscribe to the too-good-to-be-true deal! The long awaited Matchbox20 or Pearl Jam album would finally arrive, and then you began to receive bill after bill of overpriced CDs due to the ever-murky charge of “Shipping & Handling.” You think…I didn’t sign up for this! So you call the toll-free number only to hear about the dreaded ‘fine print.’

As we face crossroad decisions like salvation and temptation (or later: grief, doubt and miracles), they often seem too good to be true! We have a God who knows us and empathizes with us in temptation and pain? We have a God who loves us and sent His one and only Son to Earth to pay the sacrifice of sin on our behalf? That sounds great, but what’s the catch? Where is the fine print?

Jesus doesn’t want us to be caught with shipping and handling fees when we make our way to the pearly gates, so there is no fine print.

But there is a crossroad we have to face if we choose to follow Jesus. Will we choose His way or our own? Will we deny ourselves, pick up our cross, and follow Him?
