Christ At The Crossroads - Doubt

There is a secret that most of us don’t talk about very much. It is the fact that many of us —if not all of us—wrestle with issues of faith on occasion. We may not like to admit it, but we struggle with doubts about what we believe.

In loneliness, we might doubt the existence of God. In a crisis or trial, we might doubt the goodness or faithfulness of God. In certain intellectual circles, we might question the divinity of Christ, the validity of the Bible, the truth of the resurrection, or the reality of heaven.

This week, we meet Jesus at the intersection of faith and doubt, through a disciple named Didymus, better known as Thomas—sometimes referred to as “Doubting Thomas.”  You might remember that shortly after the miracle of the resurrection, Jesus met with all his disciples—except Thomas.

When the disciples told him what had happened, Thomas expressed his doubt.  “So the other disciples were saying to him, 'We have seen the Lord!'” But he said to them, “Unless I see in His hands the imprint of the nails, and put my finger into the place of the nails, and put my hand into His side, I will not believe.” (John 20:25)
