Abide – 1 John 2:15–27

To this point in our Abide series, we have been talking about the importance of believing in Jesus and loving one another. Along with the series, we have been reciting the Nicene Creed every week. It’s been refreshing to me to recite the creed every week—it gives me a sense of solidarity with all of the other believers throughout history who have affirmed the same things.

The creeds are important, and this week we are going to find out why.

In 1 John 2:15–27, John compares the world to a dandelion whose seeds have been blown away by the wind—it is passing away as the kingdom of God marches ever nearer. “We are in the last hour,” John says.

But despite the fact that the world is passing away, we have a promise from Jesus that gives us hope: eternal life. Because of this hope, we need to abide in the message that we have had from the beginning.

Join us this week as we reorient to things that last. The things of the world are passing away, but the person who does the will of God abides forever.
