What is your favorite book (outside of the Bible)?

This is a cruel, cruel question. It’s like asking me to pick a favorite child (or donut) but I am choosing to answer this question because I love, love, love books (this is what happens when one grows up with no TV). In this small moment in time, I am going to choose Wonder by RJ Palacio because I have read it several times – and I rarely read a book more than once. I have laughed and cried each time. I can read it to my kids, I can recommend it with confidence, it is heart wrenching and soul soaring and an absolute delight despite itself. It is a wonder. (I can feel my inner “college newspaper book reviewer” coming back to me!)

Vacation at the beach or vacation in the mountains?

At the mountains! I began skiing at the age of 31 and learned three things: 1. Taking up a new sport that involves ice in a public setting is completely humiliating (I mean, humbling) 2. I love to go fast! 3. Coming up over a ridge on the chair lift as God’s expansive, frozen, hushed creation first comes into view catches my breath. Every time.
